The Wisconsin Heart Hospital is a 60-bed, specialty care cardiovascular hospital. Unlike other hospital environments that require patients to be moved to different beds and units as their progress changes, TWHH patients and their families are located in one room for their entire stay. The patient rooms are adaptable to the level of care that is required. In essence, the hospital moves around the patient and the family. Room amenities allow patients to involve their families in supportive care and to interact with our medical staff.

The hospital’s unique design offers a critical difference in patient care delivery. Cardiovascular patients in the emergency department have immediate access to catheterization rooms just a few steps away. There are no delays from the time the ambulance arrives until artery-opening treatments are performed. The result? A dramatically shortened treatment time. This has a major impact on reducing a patient’s short and long-term complications. For example, the national average time from when a heart attack patient arrives at a hospital by ambulance until a life-saving, artery-opening procedure can be performed in a catheterization laboratory is 90-120 minutes. At The Wisconsin Heart Hospital, the average time is less than half the national average. This savings of time is critical because time is heart muscle. The sooner the treatment, the less damage to the heart muscle.

TWHH provides a full range of medical services and continues to expand its medical staff beyond its core cardiovascular capabilities. Patients who have needs that go beyond cardiovascular diagnosis and treatment can also be supported through integration with Covenant Healthcare System and other Milwaukee area health care facilities and services such as home and extended care.
