Alfred Nicolosi, MD
Practice Background: Dr. Nicolosi specializes in adult heart surgery, including surgery for coronary artery disease and heart valve disease. He has a particular interest in surgery for heart failure and is director of both heart transplantation and the mechanical circulatory support program at Froedtert Hospital. In addition to heart transplantation, he performs a number of operations for heart failure, including ventricular restoration (Dor procedure), mitral valve annuloplasty, high-risk coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation (as either bridge to transplant or "destination therapy"). Other interests include complex surgery of the aorta for aneurysm or dissection, transmyocardial laser revascularization (TMR) and use of the radial artery in CABG. His research focuses on the role of stretch and stretch-activated ion channels in cardiac contractile dysfunction.
