Preparing for Your Procedure
Pre-admission interview: The health care providers at The Wisconsin Heart Hospital need to know your medical history and current state of health. Knowing this information will assist them in delivering the best and safest care possible. A Wisconsin Heart Hospital representative will call you to obtain your medical history and answer any questions or concerns you might have.
Preparing for Your Hospital Stay
- Bring your inhalers and eye drops in original containers from home.
- Bring a list of your allergies, medical history and insurance cards.
- Please limit the number of family/friends that accompany you the day of the procedure.
- Follow your physicians instructions regarding when to stop eating and drinking prior to your procedure.
- Leave personal belongings at home (i.e.: jewelry, credit cards, checkbook, cash)
- Please pack a small bag of personal toiletries in the event that an overnight stay is required.
- Upon discharge, you are not allowed to drive. Please make arrangements for a ride home.
The Day of Your Procedure
- Register at the Concierge desk located in the hospital lobby.
- You will be directed to your assigned room in the Day Patient Suites.
- Any additional preparation for your procedure will be done in your room. (lab work, EKG’s, teaching)
- While you are in the procedure, your family should wait in your room. The physician
will speak to your family upon completion of your procedure.
After Your Procedure
- Immediately following the procedure, you will be able to eat and drink.
- It is important to drink plenty of fluids after the procedure.
- In general following a procedure, most people will be able to get out of bed sometime within 2-6 hours.
- Sometimes a procedure may require an overnight stay for additional monitoring.
Preparing to Go Home
The nursing staff will give you home care instructions on diet, activity and medications. The Wisconsin Heart Hospital is committed to making you feel comfortable with all aspects of your care.
